A note on the current situation Nepal saw significant political unrest in September 2025, with protests over constitutional and economic grievances that briefly disrupted transport and, for a period, sections of the Annapurna Circuit. That situation has since resolved through early elections held March 5, 2026, and a new government now in place — the U.S. State Department lowered its advisory to Level 2 (Exercise Increased Caution) on March 31, 2026, the same general tier as much of Western Europe. Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and all major trekking regions are operating normally as of this writing.
